About Me

Juliet Maris is an Integrated Bodyworker & Yoga Instructor in New York City who believes that life is about balance. With a background in dance, massage, and personal training, she has a deep understanding of how the body works on many different levels. She uses a mind, body, spirit approach to pain relief to facilitate more healing in less time. This is possible because all facets of pain are being addressed.

To Juliet, healing is about understanding your patterns and making decisions that support your body. She empowers her clients to take their health in their own hands by sharing the tools they need to stay out of pain. When the body's in alignment, there’s only room for wellness.

Training

Juliet has a BA in Dance and was certified through AFAA as a Personal Trainer.  She studied at the Swedish Institute of Massage and is New York State licensed as a Massage Therapist and Nationally Board Certified for Massage and Bodywork through NCBTMB.

Juliet spent an intensive year studying the Schatz Method to understand on a deeper level the relationship between alignment, trauma, and pain.  After a month long training in Bali, Juliet received her 200 hr YTT Certification through Yoga Alliance.

Basically this all means that she’s an absolute anatomy geek, and you’re in really great hands.

Integrated Bodywork

Integrated Bodywork

Integrated Bodywork is the elimination of pain through physical, emotional, and energetic alignment. We are not just physical beings, so truly effective treatment incorporates all three in order to alleviate pain permanently.

When we injure ourselves, we form compensation patterns to keep the area safe from further injury. Other muscles jump in to do jobs that they aren't meant to do and over time, send a signal of pain to the brain. It's important to eliminate the injury fully from the body so that we aren't affected by it years down the road.

My eye is acutely trained to see even the smallest postural misalignments. I focus on the muscles that affect alignment to bring the body back to its optimal posture. My work includes hands-on release, stretching, and strengthening exercises in order to create holistic healing and permanent pain relief.

Yoga

Yoga

Yoga is a great tool for eliminating pain and preventing future injuries. We use physical postures in combination with the breath to find length in areas that experience tightness or restrictions and bring strength to areas of weakness or excessive mobility. For me, yoga is not about achieving some crazy posture. It is about pairing strength with flexibility in order to find balance in the body.

Yoga works beautifully in conjunction with bodywork to repattern muscles and bring the body towards its optimal alignment. This practice allows me to show you how to access your physical, emotional and energetic self so that you can live pain-free everyday.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage allows the body to relax by tapping into the parasympathetic nervous system. When the body is able to rest and decompress, stress levels lower and muscles release their state of tension.

I offer Myofascial Release, Shiatsu, Thai and Swedish massage. Usually I combine all modalities to tailor the session to the client on that specific day. Each body is different and things can shift from day to day, so I work with what presents itself in a holistic way.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage

Thai Massage is basically the lazy man's yoga. The client is on a mat on the floor and the therapist works through the sen lines or energetic pathways to open the body, release tension, and lengthen the muscles. You feel light, open, and relaxed after a session. Thai Massage is amazing on it's own and incredible as an add on after a yoga class!
